Rotterdam Hofwijk Crematory (Rotterdam - The Netherlands)

The Rotterdam Hofwijk Crematorium in Overschie is the only municipal crematorium in Rotterdam. The imposing building lies in a magnificent park and overlooks a striking water feature. The renovated Rotterdam Hofwijk Crematorium opened at the end of September 2008. The building was fully restored. The ovens were in need of replacement and the accommodation was outdated. The new design is modern, open and tranquil. The entrance has been moved to the front of the building, the interior now has a contemporary appearance and more areas have been created so that people can stay a while longer after an official service without feeling the need to leave because another funeral cortège is en route. The building has been designed to cater for two simultaneous funeral services. The Hofwijk crematorium now offers two auditoriums and five impeccable waiting rooms with tea and coffee facilities. A more intimate space has also been created to cater for smaller groups.

Merford supplied sound-insulating (escape) doors, a number of which are also fire resistant, for the various crematorium areas. The doors ensure that people in one area do not experience any disturbance from noise in another area when multiple services are held simultaneously.
